Maintenance Schedules

Nearly everyone is familiar with the 3,000-mile oil change, or knows to change out headlights or marker lights when they dim or flicker, but do you know how often you need to maintain the other vital systems within your vehicle?

Most people wait until there’s a problem with their vehicle to service it, but regular vehicle maintenance keeps your vehicle running optimally, saves you money in the long-run, and helps you get the most out of your investment.

Here at Daytona Toyota, we know the importance of proper vehicle maintenance, so we’ve compiled these Toyota maintenance schedules to keep you—and your vehicle—on track.

Check Monthly

On a monthly basis, you should clean your interior, inspect your exterior lights, check your fluid levels, and check your tire condition, tread depth, and inflation level. Any low fluids should be replaced, and any issues with your tires should be inspected by a service technician.

Check Every Three Months/3,000 Miles

In addition to your monthly checks, you should also change your oil and oil filter. This is an opportunity to do a visual check of other aspects of your vehicle, including your battery and cables, belts, exhaust, fuel filter, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and hoses.

Any issues that arise should be serviced by a technician as soon as possible.

Check Every Six Months/6,000 Miles

Now is the time for another visual check, as well as another oil and oil filter change for your vehicle. Routine care, such as chassis lubrication, interior cleaning, and exterior polishing should also be done at this time.

At the six-month point, you should perform a more thorough visual check of all your engine, brake, and steering components, as well as checking your tires condition and noting any wear.

Any concerns you have should be inspected by a service technician.

Check Every Nine Months/9,000 Miles

At nine months, it’s time for another visual inspection of all your vehicle’s parts and systems, as well as a detailed cleaning of both interior and exterior.

At this time, inspect your brakes, engine, steering, and suspension components, check your fluid levels, inspect the battery and coolant, and check the condition, wear, and tread depth of your tires. It’s also time for another oil and oil filter change.

Have a service technician inspect any areas of your vehicle that seem to have significant wear or damage.

Check Every Twelve Months/12,000 Miles

In addition to your regular visual checks, you’ll also want to consider replacing the air filter, and have the fuel filter checked and replaced if necessary.

It’s also time for a thorough cleaning and inspection of your vehicle’s vital components, fluid levels, tire condition, battery, and coolant.

Check your inspection date as well, since it may be time for your annual inspection.

Regular or Severe Driving?

Generally, there are different maintenance schedules according to your driving routine, marked “regular” and “severe.”

Some considerations for “severe” driving are:

  • Short commutes
  • Excessive dust or salt
  • Extreme hot and cold climates
  • Heavy cargo, towing, or passenger loads
  • Rough terrain
  • Congested traffic

If any of these fit your regular driving conditions, you most likely fall in the “severe” category. More frequent fluid changes and vehicle checks may be inconvenient, but they save you money and headaches by limiting your serious repairs over time.
