Two of the more popular models—the 2020 Toyota Avalon and 2020 Nissan Maxima—offer even more with their premium designs and advanced technology systems. Which car has everything you need?

Our Daytona Toyota team took a closer look at the performance, design, and features of the 2020 Toyota Avalon vs. Nissan Maxima to help you find out.

Avalon vs Maxima: Performance

Toyota AvalonEach of these cars offer sporty performance and come with plenty of power for exciting driving wherever you go. That is thanks to standard V6 engines that are found under each of their hoods.

The 2020 Maxima is equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine that generates 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Avalon also is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine, which creates a little extra power with 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

The main difference in performance, though, is their fuel economy. The Nissan Maxima does a good job saving fuel, getting an EPA-estimated 20 city/30 highway MPG. A more efficient drive is had in the Toyota Avalon, however, as it gets an EPA-estimated 22 city/32 highway MPG.1

Which Car Has More Space?

Both vehicles offer a comfortable ride for you and your passengers with a range of amenities like a dual zone automatic climate control system and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The Toyota Avalon is the larger of the two, though, when it comes to room inside the car. Its interior has 104.3 cubic feet of passenger volume, including 38 inches of legroom in the back row. The Nissan Maxima has 98.5 cubic feet of passenger volume. Passengers in the rear seats also won’t have nearly as much room to stretch out with just 34.2 inches of legroom.

Each car also has additional space in their trunks to carry gear and store supplies. The 2020 Maxima has 14.3 cubic feet of cargo volume in its trunk, while the Toyota Avalon can fit more in its trunk that has over 16 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Technology that Makes Your Ride Safer

Toyota Avalon Safety TechnologyWith either car, you will have a variety of systems that are ready to make your commute a safer one. They each have systems that can detect when you need to quickly slow down or if there is a car coming up on your side when you want to change lanes.

They each will automatically turn the high beams on when extra visibility at night is needed, too. Even shine your intended path better with the available Adaptive Headlights in the 2020 Toyota Avalon. These lights turn with your wheels to make it easier to see when making a left at the intersection or while parking.

The 2020 Avalon also has an available Head-Up Display (HUD). This will show you safety alerts, your speed limit, navigation, and more all on your windshield, so you can stay aware without having to take your eyes off the road.
