Important Details About the 2017 Daytona Blues Festival

The Daytona Blues Festival is a three day event showcasing all types of blues, whether it’s Delta Blues, Dirty Blues, Memphis Blues, or even Jazz Blues, it’s your chance to check out some of the biggest names in modern contemporary blues throughout the festival’s run. While the festival is destined to be a great time, you’ll be happy to know that proceeds from the festival help support the Halifax Health’s Center for Women and Infant Health, as well as Project Warm, which features a staff of women who assist recovering mothers at the Vince Carter Sanctuary.

The Daytona Blues Foundation will hold this three day blues experience at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona. Each day the festivities begin at 1PM and go until 10PM. The festival is $35 a day, or $90 for the whole festival.

Who to Check Out at the 2017 Daytona Blues Festival

There are going to be plenty of artists gracing the stage to help satisfy your blues cravings. You’ll hear tunes from artists like Shakura S’Aida, Tas Cru, Willie Green, and Al Hill, and many more. However, there’s a select few that we’re really excited about who are playing on different days of the festival.

October 6: On Friday, there are several performances, but you should really check out Carolyn Wonderland. She’s a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist reminiscent of Janis Joplin, with guitar hooks like Stevie Ray Vaughan.

October 7: Joe Louis Walker is an award-winning and Blues Hall of Fame inducted artist who has never compromised his credibility or his unique style of playing. His classic and plucky playing is reminiscent of the early days while he brings some new tricks to the table.

October 8: The final day of the Daytona Blues Festival will feature a few artists, but most notably, Tinsley Ellis will hit the stage. You name the place, and Ellis has played it. He’s earned his place on a variety of Best Of lists, as well as earning album of the year from Blues Blast magazine.

What Else is Going on at the Daytona Blues Festival?

On top of the three straight days of live blues, there will be other things to look forward to. The second day of the festival will feature Craft Brews & Blues, so you can enjoy the taste of unique buds during your experience. This day will feature selections from Terrapin Beer Co., Samuel Adams, and Yuengling Brewery.

The Daytona Blues Festival will also feature a few Blues workshops to help you master the techniques. Friday at 1:15PM is a workshop where Tim Fik from the Bridget Kelly Band will discuss contemporary blues and its meaning in America. Redd Velvet will showcase her “I AM THE BLUES” exhibit on Saturday at 11:45. Sunday, Tas Cru will discuss Blues Songwriting at 11:45.
