2019 Toyota 4Runner Review

2019 Toyota 4Runner Review

When it comes to full-size, 3-row sport utility vehicles, the Toyota 4Runner has been a mainstay in the sector for decades. It’s a vehicle that provides a rugged, truck-like look in a field full of crossovers that are trying to look like cars. It provides a powerful engine and solid performance, and it has a rugged and adventurous attitude that drivers across the Palm Coast, Ormond Beach, and the entire Daytona Beach area have grown to love.

With a new model year upon us, fans are eager to see what this year’s model will bring. Let’s check out a complete review of the 2019 4Runner, focusing on what’s new, the power and technology you can expect, and its overall ride quality.

2019 Toyota 4Runner

2019 Toyota 4RunnerThis year, the 2019 4Runner hits dealerships with brand-new Fox shock absorbers at the TRD Pro trim, as well as new skid plates, a roof rack, and a standard Sunroof as well as a premium JBL® sound system. There’s also a new Limited Nightshade edition, which offers an all-black color scheme.

All models of 4Runner are powered under the hood by a V6 4.0-liter engine that gives you 270 horsepower with 278 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and when properly equipped, has a towing rating of up to 5,000 pounds. At the base level, and in the Limited trim, you can opt for rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive; all other trim levels are 4WD only. Rear-wheel drive models can opt for 3-row seating; others seat five.

Finally, the SR5, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro trim levels that feature 4WD also get a low-range transfer case.  This allows power to be divided among all four wheels, which makes more intense off-roading over hills and rocks much easier.

Technology

There are a whopping seven different trim levels on the 4Runner, making for a supremely customizable crossover. These are the SR5 and SR5 Premium, the TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and the Limited and Limited Nightshade. Even the base level is anything but basic. Not only does it come with a standard Entune™ infotainment system with 6-inch touchscreen, USB port, and eight speakers, plus CD player, Satellite and HD Radio™, and auxiliary input, you’ll also get features like heated mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer for convenience.

There are many ways you can customize this crossover, from a workhorse to a family hauler, to an off-road adventuring vehicle. There’s even a true luxury level that offers full-time 4WD, specialized suspension, heated and cooled seats, and special styling features.

Off-Roading

2019 Toyota 4Runner Off-RoadingIf you’re looking for the best in trailblazing off-road capabilities, the 4Runner stands with the best of them. The TRD Off-Road trim is custom designed for this purpose with special terrain-select settings, crawl control, locking rear differential, and more, including an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that’s perfect for trails and tough terrain.
