What is Toyota Safety Sense™?
What is the most important aspect of any vehicle driving through the Daytona Beach, Palm Coast, and Ormond Beach areas? Some would say comfort, while others tend to emphasize performance. At the end of the day, however, the most important aspect of any vehicle is its ability to keep its passengers safe. Fortunately, most car manufacturers know this, which is why modern vehicles are safer than they’ve ever been before.
One of the leaders in automotive safety is Toyota, with their Toyota Safety Sense™ suite of features. When it comes to safety and longevity, Toyota has a well-earned reputation, and Toyota Safety Sense™ will only expand that further. “What is Toyota Safety Sense™?” you might ask. Learn all about it, and discover how it can protect you and your family in our comprehensive overview.
The Basics
At its core, Toyota Safety Sense™ is a suite of technologically advanced driver assistance features that work together to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. While these systems can accomplish great feats to avoid crashes or at least reduce the impact, it’s important to remember that they cannot act as replacements for your own reaction time and driving ability; their purpose is to enhance your abilities, not replace them.
Toyota knows that safety is the most important aspect of any vehicle; that’s why the full Toyota Safety Sense™ suite comes standard on most models in the current lineup. Cost should never be a barrier to safety, so you can be sure you’re in good hands when you’re behind the wheel of a new Toyota vehicle.
Pre-Collision System
Arguably the most impressive feature in the safety suite is the pre-collision system. This system constantly scans the environment in front of you for any potential dangers. Keep in mind, it doesn’t scan for obstacles in general. It only scans for obstacles that you have a chance of colliding with, given both your current speed and the object’s current speed.
When an imminent collision is detected, your Toyota vehicle will alert you. If you notice any of these alerts, it’s time to hit the brakes as soon as you can. If you fail to do so, or you don’t apply enough brake pressure, your Toyota can go so far as to apply the brakes for you. Unlike similar systems on other makes, this pre-collision system can also detect pedestrians, not just other vehicles, so you can enjoy even further peace of mind when behind the wheel.
Lane Departure with Steering Assist
Another incredible feature is the Lane Departure System. When your Toyota vehicle detects that you’re exiting your lane without signaling first, you will receive an alert, so you can correct the vehicle.
If you activate the steering assist feature, your Toyota can even make some corrections for you. If it detects you leaving your lane without signaling, it will alert you and also edge you slightly back into your lane. While this cannot replace your own steering, it does help quite a bit.
