Corolla vs Focus: Power

When it comes to power, both vehicles generate formidable power. However, only one comes out on top as possessing an all-around, impressive powertrain: the Toyota Corolla. With a 1.8L four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence, this sedan delivers an exceptional fuel economy. In the Corolla, you’ll have an EPA-estimated 28/36 MPG city/highway1, while the Focus’ has an EPA-estimated 25/34 MPG city/highway2.

The Toyota Corolla, too, has a Continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligence and Shift Mode, ensuring you a smooth and pleasant ride even on those pothole-infested highways. The Focus, in retrospect, has only a five-speed manual transmission.

Corolla vs Focus: Entertainment

If you’re seeking a comprehensive entertainment suite, then you’ll be stunned by the Entune™ system in the Toyota Corolla. This system comes packed with a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen, Siri® Eyes Free, advanced voice recognition, HD Radio™ Traffic and Weather in major metro areas, and music streaming via Bluetooth®—that’s only scratching the surface of its available apps and features, too. The Focus’ SYNC® system, however, doesn’t offer as many standard features.

Plus, the Corolla also has a tilt-and-telescopic three-spoke steering wheel with audio, multi-information display, and Bluetooth® hands-free phone and voice command. With this tech-savvy steering wheel, you’ll never have to be distracted on the road again. Unfortunately, the steering wheel in the Focus doesn’t have as many helpful controls.

Corolla vs Focus: Safety

As much fun as it is to rev up your engine or jam to your favorite artists, safety is always the most important aspect of any vehicle. Inside the Corolla, you’ll discover a sedan crafted with safety in mind—from the body to the seats.

The Toyota Corolla has an energy-absorbing, collapsible steering column along with front and rear energy-absorbing crumple zones with side-impact door beams. Plus, you’ll find the standard Toyota Safety Sense™ system inside, which includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

As for the Ford Focus, you’ll also have several safety features, such as the Safety Canopy® System and AdvanceTrac® with Electronic Stability Control. Still, it’s not as expansive and integrated as the Corolla’s safety systems.

2017 Toyota Corolla vs 2017 Ford Focus: Verdict

Despite the Focus having some exceptional features, the clear winner of this round is the Toyota Corolla. Thanks to its brilliant fuel economy, expansive entertainment suite, and intelligent safety features, this car is a sought-after vehicle. Still, the only way to see if it’s the right car for you is by taking it out for a spin.
