2020 Camry vs 2020 Malibu: Performance

2020 Toyota Camry Engine SpecsThe Camry and Malibu both offer your choice of performance depending on which configuration you choose.

The Toyota Camry gives drivers the choice of multiple engines. Standard is the 2.5L 4-cylinder, which boasts 203 horsepower and an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 29 city/41 highway/34 combined MPG.* For more oomph under the hood, opt for the available 3.5L V6 engine with its impressive 301 horsepower. Or, for better efficiency, go for the Camry Hybrid powertrain, which gives drivers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of a highly impressive 51 city/53 highway/52 combined MPG.*

Though the Chevy Malibu also offers multiple engines, no matter which configuration you go for, you won’t have as much power and efficiency as the Camry. The Malibu standard 1.5L 4-cylinder engine only generates 160 horsepower. And though its estimated mileage is the same in the city as the Camry, with a 29 city/36 highway/32 combined MPG rating, it’s far less efficient.

Additionally, the upgraded 2.0L turbocharged engine still offers less power than the available engine in the Camry, coming in at 250 horsepower. And, there’s no hybrid powertrain available.

2020 Toyota Camry vs 2020 Chevrolet Malibu: Safety

Toyota Camry SafetyDriver-assistive technologies are found in nearly every new vehicle produced. These help you elevate your awareness, prevent collisions, and keep you safer on the roads. Both sedans offer these technologies.

In the 2020 Camry, you’ll find the Toyota Safety Sense™ P. This standard package of driving aids is found in every trim and includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams

The 2020 Malibu also offers similar technologies like Forward Collision Alerts, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Pedestrian Braking, and automatic headlamps. However, none of these systems are standard. For extra assurance, you’ll have to upgrade to one of the higher trim levels.
